At Thorpe Primary School our vision for religious education is to develop children’s understanding of different religions, cultures and customs through: thinking, engagement, actions and motivation. RE at Thorpe provides opportunities for children to learn about a variety of religions, belief systems, festivals and rituals, encouraging children to celebrate diversity within our community and challenge prejudice.

To learn about the customs, rituals and festivals associated with different religions and why these are significant.
To understand different communities of people and why they engage in religious or cultural customs.

To visit places of worship and enjoy taking part in enrichment opportunities which incorporate religious customs and rituals.

To learn how to become tolerant and compassionate citizens who demonstrate mutual respect for people.
To develop empathy, generosity and a sense of identity and belonging to help them understand their place in society.

To recognise and challenge prejudice and intolerance.
